Hollywood Café

The old Post Office at the foothills of the Wicklow mountains had been an important fixture in Hollywood for a long time, and when it closed, it was a major loss to the village. In reopening as a café, it was a welcome return to use for the building, and a great boost for the village.

The challenge as architects, was to provide a functioning café, with full catering kitchen, pizza oven, and internal and external dining spaces, using the existing structure. It was important to retain the inherent charm of the existing building, while achieving all of the regulatory requirements of Planning, Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Universal Access, and Building Control.

A single storey extension to the south facing rear of the existing building, captures spaces to the east and west, providing shelter for outdoor seating spaces, as a morning terrace and evening terrace. A pitched, gabled roof, traditional in form, but built to modern standards, ties in with the existing roof.
